SPM QUICK TIPS AND SPM-P QUICK TIPS (2014)

The new SPM and SPM-P Quick Tips is a collection of strategies for integrating sensory-based activities into a child’s everyday life. It’s a navigation tool to help answer the question “what’s next?” following administration of the SPM or SPM-P.

Key features:

Offers a framework based on careful standardized assessment developed from observations across multiple environments

Supports practitioners in using clinical reasoning and consultation skills in the intervention process

Primary users of the Quick Tips are occupational therapy practitioners in clinical, school, and community settings who have mentored with a sensory integration (SI) expert and are trained in SI and sensory processing. These practitioners can in turn teach others how to use the Quick Tips. Parents, teachers, school personnel, and other professionals can use the strategies and techniques as long as the therapy practitioner responsible for interpreting administration results provides direction.

The Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT) measure the sensory integration processes that underlie learning and behavior. By showing you how children organize and respond to sensory input, SIPT helps pinpoint specific organic problems associated with learning disabilities, emotional disorders, and minimal brain dysfunction.

17 Tests Provide a Comprehensive Assessment

The SIPT measures visual, tactile, and kinesthetic perception as well as motor performance. It is composed of the following 17 brief tests:

3. Standing/Walking Balance

4. Design Copying

5. Postural Praxis

6. Bilateral Motor Coordination

7. Praxis on Verbal Command

8. Constructional Praxis

9. Postrotary Nystagmus

17. Localization of Tactile Stimuli

The entire battery can be given in 2 hours. And any of the individual tests can be administered separately in about 10 minutes. Norms are provided for each test?based on a national sample of more than 2,000 children between the ages of 4 years and 8 years, 11 months.

Computer Scoring is Easy and Accurate

All SIPT tests are computer scored using the SIPT CD. Any combination of the 17 tests can be scored?you don’t need to administer the entire battery. For each child tested, you’ll receive a detailed report explaining SIPT results.

The Scoring CD Offers Flexibility?and a New Low Price

The SIPT CD allows you to score a partial test battery and still retain unused scoring credits. For example, each 10-use CD contains a counter with 150 credits, and each credit allows you to score one SIPT test. If you administer one test, the counter will reduce your credits by one unit. If you administer 16 tests, or the complete battery of 17 tests, the counter will reduce your credits by only 15 units. Therefore, each 10-use CD can score 10 complete test batteries or 150 individual tests. Similarly, each 25-use CD can score 25 complete batteries or 375 individual tests.
